April 4, 2024“Fact-check your ideas early on so that you don’t become resistant to being wrong.”
For many, being proven wrong is a difficult concept to accept because to realize that one was wrong or that one made a mistake is often an emotionally difficult undertaking; and the longer one has been holding onto the idea or belief, or the longer one has been committed to a task or a cause, the more difficult it becomes to let go of that belief, the task, or even, a person.
The longer we are committed to a belief, a task, or a person, the more attached we become to that belief, task, or person. Such attachment often creates comfort and it becomes part of our self-identity; therefore, to walk-away from it because we recognize that the belief, the task, or the person is not good for us can be emotionally difficult and even demeaning, especially if that admittance will be exposed publicly.
This is why Theory of Self-Relativity advocates thinking-factually so that we can seek facts as early as possible so that we not only don’t waste time being with the wrong idea or the wrong person; but also, so that we are not vested in it for too long where it becomes more difficult to correct our position.
