June 19, 2025“Expectations often lead to disappointments, especially when reliant on someone else’s performance.”
As stated in Theory of Self-Relativity, worry and anxiety are often associated with expectations; because an expectation is generally a positive mindset that is based on hope, rather than it being a realistic anticipatory mindset that is reliant on action taken awaiting a certain outcome. Add to this relativity, the variable of expecting something from someone else, and, the level of our worry and anxiety can rise significantly because we have no control, if or how, someone else will meet our expectations.
This is why, Theory of Self-Relativity recommends anticipation instead of expectation, because anticipation is based on action that leads to the potential of a certain outcome; however, an expectation could simply be a positive mindset, such as hope or wishful-thinking, that doesn’t lead to any favorable results. As further stated in Theory of Self-Relativity:
“Anticipation allows for preparation but expectation sets up for disappointment.”
