The Toxic World Of Self-Help
June 13, 2024What is Wrong with the Self-Improvement Industry & Lack of Critical Thinking?
June 17, 2024“When we become too grateful, we shift our focus from growth to preservation.”
Gratitude is culturally and socially promoted as a necessary positive mindset. While it is good to have a sense of appreciation for our current situation; according to Theory of Self-Relativity, excessive gratitude is actually a coping mechanism for dealing with inability to make things better.
Many, especially in difficult socioeconomic status, are excessively gratuitous because gratitude becomes a comforting and justification mechanism for lack of progress and inability to improve one’s circumstances and quality of life. This is why Self-Relativity states:
“Gratitude is self-serving; acceptance and action is liberating.”
Instead of being excessively gratuitous, we should focus on improving our lives so that we are appreciative of the new improvements we create, rather than being excessively grateful for the few things that we have.
