June 22, 2024“Most people don’t listen to understand, they wait to answer.”
As stated in Theory of Self-Relativity:
“To be a good listener; you must have interest and you must care to understand.”
This means, in order to have a healthy interaction and relationship with others we must have:
- Empathy (care to know each other’s feelings)
- Perspective-taking ability (have interest in one another’s perspective)
Likewise, we should require same from others because if others don’t have interest and understanding, we will continuously be involved in unhealthy and non-productive attempts of communication.
If we are able to listen and communicate bilaterally based on caring and interest, we will then engage in disagreements in a constructive manner. As further stated in Self-Relativity:
“Disagreements are good for learning. Debate to learn, don’t debate to not be wrong”.
