March 5, 2021“Forgiveness is self-serving; acceptance is liberating.”
Forgiveness has been incorrectly glorified as “righteous”; especially when it is recommended we forgive others. Forgiveness is a self-serving act because forgiveness is intended to make us feel good by trying to give us unilateral closure. Often the forgiven is unaware of or could care less about being forgiven but we decide to forgive because it helps our ego and how we feel.
Acceptance is key and if someone else recognizes their wrongdoing and if you decide to proceed with them, simply accept whereby your acceptance serves as your ability to move forward without the need for forgiveness or an apology.
