March 7, 2021“Disagreements are good for learning. Debate to learn, don’t debate to not be wrong.”
To many, being proven wrong is more demeaning and detrimental than learning hence they try to stand their ground with any means possible to not be proven wrong. In other words, many would fight tooth and nail to not be proven wrong even when they are wrong than to accept their lack of knowledge or incorrect perspective and to learn from it.
Being wrong is a powerful means of gaining knowledge because when we are wrong we will remember the knowledge gained much stronger than if we passively learned something. Being wrong is no different than failing; it is the best means of learning and improving.
In emotional-thinking, when emotions are more powerful than thoughts, learning takes a backseat to not being wrong.
