November 16, 2021Wisdom is to see reality as how reality is; not as how we want reality to be.
As discussed throughout Theory of Self-Relativity, self-deception, which is categorized as one of the 10-Enemies of self-improvement, is one of the main reasons why we have difficulty improving and living in harmony with reality. We self-deceive because of our desire to avoid pain, to feel good or at the minimum, to not feel as bad as we would have if we dealt with reality as it is, regardless of how dislikable or painful the facts may be. We self-deceive via placebo-thinking which is a form of emotional-reasoning. Theory of Self-Relativity has termed and defined placebo-thinking as creating a false reality via fallacies in order to fit this false-reality to our feelings rather than fitting our feelings to the factual-reality. We engage in placebo-thinking by subjectively interpreting and manipulating facts to how we want to view reality.
Hence the reason why wisdom must be rooted in factual-thinking and the objective application of experience and knowledge in order to progress and transform our existence for the better. One does not need to be a long white-bearded old man to be considered wise; because, as defined by Theory of Self-Relativity, “Wisdom” is:
“The effective application of experience and knowledge that is constantly evolving and which is not contingent upon subjective-interpretations.”
